What are the SDGs?
SDGs stands for "Sustainable Development Goals," an international set of goals adopted unanimously by member states at the UN Summit in September 2015, aiming for a sustainable and better world by 2030. It consists of 17 goals and 169 targets, pledging to "leave no one behind" on Earth.
Hotel Granvia Wakayama endorses the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and, as a company committed to serving the local community, will actively participate in addressing regional and social issues through its SDGs initiatives.
Coexistence with the local community and nature
Regarding the use of ingredients from Wakayama Prefecture
Our restaurant offers a variety of dishes featuring ingredients from Wakayama Prefecture, including our breakfast menu, "Kishuji Gourmet."
Use of treated well water
We use treated well water for the majority of the annual water usage for the entire facility, including nearby facilities, and we strive to secure a safe, self-supplied water source so that our guests can stay with peace of mind even during disasters.
Regular cleaning activities in front of the station
We conduct regular cleaning of the area surrounding the hotel.
Regional promotional exhibit in the lobby
Located at the "gateway to Wakayama," we collaborate with local governments and businesses to promote the charms of Wakayama and contribute to regional revitalization.
Coexistence between local communities and the prevention of global warming
Reducing plastic products
We are working to reduce the use of plastic products, including bathroom amenities, by switching to alternative materials.
Promoting the use of LEDs
We are progressively converting the building's lighting to LED, replacing all the lights in the building with LEDs in stages. This will reduce electricity consumption and contribute to preventing global warming.
Initiatives that we carry out together with our customers
Reducing food waste
In our banquet halls, we propose the "3010 Movement" to reduce food waste. This initiative encourages guests to return to their seats and finish their meals for 30 minutes after the toast and for 10 minutes before the end of the event. Furthermore, at "Hotels Cafe Password," we are utilizing "TABETE," a food-sharing service that allows guests to "rescue" (purchase) takeout cakes that are difficult to sell out, in order to reduce food loss. (*Downloading the "TABETE" app is required to use this service.)
Reducing CO2 emissions
Currently, a significant amount of CO2 is emitted during hotel stays due to laundry, electricity usage, and amenity replacement. As such, for stays of two or more nights, we have made it standard practice not to change linen and are working to reduce the amount of detergent and heavy oil used for laundry. (*Linen will be changed upon request.) We also encourage guests to take advantage of our "Zero CO2 Stay" plan, which can offset (compensate for) the CO2 emissions.
Employee initiatives and workplace environment improvements
Internal and external training programs
We encourage mutual inspiration and self-improvement through training programs for all employees, as well as training programs aimed at developing younger employees. Furthermore, to enhance motivation, we provide various opportunities, such as external seminars that contribute to individual skill development and career advancement.
Creating a comfortable working environment
We are promoting diversity and reviewing our internal regulations to be more considerate of foreigners, people with disabilities, and gender, and we are working to support work-life balance and create a comfortable working environment for all staff members.
Company awards
We recognize employees who have served for many years and those who have provided the best possible service to our customers.
Internship
We provide valuable practical experience and implement initiatives to help students secure future employment and job placement.
Disaster prevention and evacuation training
In addition to six fire drills per year, we also conduct emergency first aid training and other measures to ensure the safety and security of our customers and employees.
Eco-cap campaign
Hotel Granvia Wakayama participates in the eco-cap recycling movement by donating bottle caps to the NPO Eco-Cap Promotion Association.
The Eco-Cap Promotion Association, a non-profit organization promoting the SDGs, collects eco-caps, crushes them instead of burning them, and creates recycled products such as ballpoint pens and motorcycle fenders, thus recycling them. We will continue to promote and advance the eco-cap movement to eliminate plastic waste and reduce marine pollution worldwide.
Toward creating a hotel that is friendly to everyone and
the environment through new initiatives
As a company committed to coexisting with the local community, we are deepening our understanding of the SDGs and striving to create hotels that are friendly to everyone and the environment. Furthermore, to achieve the JR West Group's vision of a "safe and prosperous society where people meet and smiles are born," we hope to contribute to achieving the SDGs by realizing a West Japan area where everyone—including future generations—can continue to thrive.
