Accommodation Department
Joining the company in 2025
How I joined the company, and why I joined.
I wanted to do work that would benefit others, and I thought it would be wonderful to be able to help make extraordinary moments special, so I became interested in the hotel industry. I decided to join the company because it was easy to commute from my home and I liked the atmosphere when I visited the workplace.
Workplace atmosphere
Everyone around me is incredibly kind. There's really no one I feel hesitant to talk to; everyone is approachable, kind, and teaches me things carefully. Also, when we have some free time, we share stories about our personal lives and recommend good restaurants, deepening our communication. Everyone is so friendly and easy to talk to, which makes work enjoyable.
What challenges do you want to take on in the future? What kind of work do you want to do?
Since we have many guests from overseas, I would like to acquire language skills that will allow me to communicate with guests of any nationality without relying on translation machines. Also, recently I have been in charge of group arrangements, and I would like to deepen my knowledge of group travel and become a valuable member of the accommodation department.
Are you able to balance work and personal life?
I do get plenty of time off. In addition to the annual holidays, I feel like I have a lot of days off because I'm treated as working on the day after a night shift. They also listen to my requests for days off, and I have paid leave, so I can make plans with my friends well in advance and use that as motivation to work hard every day. Because it's a shift system, I don't get as many days off on weekends, during Obon, or at the end of the year and New Year's, but I can go out and have fun when there are fewer people around, so I'm able to have fulfilling days off.

How I joined the company, and why I joined.
During my student days, I worked part-time at a diner, which sparked my interest in customer service and made me want to pursue a career in that field. I also love traveling and frequently stay in hotels, and each time I was drawn to the hotel staff who provide guests with special experiences in an extraordinary setting. After actually experiencing an internship, I was captivated by the warm, community-oriented atmosphere and the positive relationships among the staff, which led me to decide to join Hotel Granvia Wakayama.
Workplace atmosphere
Restaurant work cannot be done alone. We all work together, cooperating and supporting each other as we go about our daily tasks. If we have any problems or concerns, our superiors and senior staff are always there to listen and offer advice, which is a very reassuring environment. Also, we often go out together outside of work, regardless of seniority, so I think it's a very comfortable workplace.
What is your most radiant moment?
I currently work mainly in the restaurant, handling the breakfast buffet and Cafe Restaurant. Breakfast is the last time guests spend at the hotel, so I make it a point to serve them with the intention of helping them start their day on a positive note and leave with good memories. In Cafe Restaurant, we have many regular customers, and when they say "Thank you for always coming," I feel a real connection with them and it makes me feel truly glad to be doing this job. It's in moments like these that I feel I can shine and be myself.
A message to those considering joining our company
We especially welcome those who enjoy customer service and interacting with people. Working in a restaurant allows you to communicate directly with customers at close range, making it a very rewarding job. Another attractive aspect of this job is that, because it's a shift system, you can take time off to travel or do other things during weekdays or other less busy times. Why not join us at Hotel Granvia Wakayama and bring smiles to our customers' faces? We look forward to working with you.
cooking department
Joined the company in 2024
How I joined the company, and why I joined.
I was attending a culinary school and was struggling to decide where to work when I attended a company information session, which led to my joining the company. After listening to the presentation, I was attracted to the hotel's atmosphere and its philosophy of valuing customers. I also felt that I could make use of what I had learned at culinary school, and the company's high level of commitment to cooking made me think, "I think I can work here and grow in my own way." I joined the company with the desire to hone my skills as a chef and provide dishes that will make customers happy.
Workplace atmosphere
I work in a supportive environment where my superiors and senior colleagues are very kind and encourage my growth. I also get along well with my peers and juniors, and it's easy to talk to them about work and personal matters, so I enjoy my work every day. Sometimes I get scolded, but even that is a valuable experience. I believe this is a workplace where I can grow not only professionally but also as a person.
What challenges do you want to take on in the future? What kind of work do you want to do?
I want to become a teacher at a culinary school and share the charm and knowledge of cooking with many different people.
To achieve that, I want to gain more knowledge as a chef, hone my skills, and become someone who can handle various tasks and be entrusted with responsibilities.
A message to those considering joining our company
It's natural to feel anxious at first.
I also struggled with anxiety and failures at first. But I think it's a really great workplace because my superiors and senior colleagues listened to me attentively and encouraged me to grow at my own pace.
While there are busy days, you'll gain a variety of experiences and feel a real sense of personal growth. Therefore, I think this job is incredibly rewarding for those who want to further hone their skills and grow professionally. I would love to work with you all to make Hotel Granvia Wakayama even better! I look forward to working with you.
General Affairs and Planning Department
Joined the company in 2008
Having transferred from the Accommodation Department to the General Affairs and Planning Department, are you able to make use of your experience in the Accommodation Department?
I'm putting my skills to good use. In the administrative department, I have less interaction with hotel guests, but my main focus is on interactions with group companies, external business partners, shareholders, etc., so my telephone etiquette and manner of speaking are very useful. Also, the job of general affairs is to support employees on the front lines so that they can perform at their best. When I conduct follow-up interviews with younger employees, especially those in the accommodation department, I can share my own experiences, which makes them feel more comfortable opening up to me. It also helps me understand their thoughts and work, making it easier to give specific advice. Furthermore, it makes it easier to show consideration and communicate with superiors, seniors, and juniors in other departments, so I'm glad I had experience in a practical department. I believe that my daily efforts and experiences will definitely be useful even if I change departments in the future.
What were some of the difficulties you faced when returning to work after maternity leave?
Having to leave work early or take time off due to my child's sudden illness always made me feel guilty because it inconvenienced my colleagues. However, my superiors, colleagues, and juniors at the time never showed any displeasure and would always ask, "That must be tough," or "Are you okay?" which I was very grateful for. More than 10 years have passed since then, and now the company has even more comprehensive systems in place to support working parents.
For example, "nursing leave" can be taken in hourly increments not only when you're sick, but also for events such as sports days and graduation ceremonies. I think this is a company where you can work with peace of mind for a long time.
